Plan a conversation program that creates useful relationships, credible ideas and reusable content. Start with the business purpose, then decide what each conversation should produce.

1. Choose one primary purpose

Select a primary purpose for the first series. Other benefits can support it.

  • Personal brand: make an expert’s perspective understandable and recognizable.
  • Company brand: explain the problems, ideas and people behind the business.
  • Customer research: learn how a defined audience describes its needs and decisions.
  • Thought leadership: develop a defensible point of view through informed conversations.
  • Relationship development: create relevant conversations with people you want to know.
  • Book or report development: gather interview material for a clearly defined editorial project.

Primary purpose: **__**

Audience: **__**

The business decision or action this should support: **__**

2. Write the series promise

Complete this sentence:

“This series helps **__** understand **__** through conversations with **__**.”

What makes the perspective distinctive? **__**

What would make an episode genuinely useful even if the guest never becomes a customer? **__**

3. Plan the first four conversations

Use roles or topics until a guest has confirmed. A target guest is not a booked guest.

Research prompts you can adapt:

  1. What has changed in how you approach this problem?
  2. What happens before someone decides to act?
  3. Which options have you tried, and what did you learn?
  4. What do providers tend to misunderstand?
  5. What would a better outcome look like?

Do not treat a small interview series as representative market research. Keep participants’ words separate from your interpretation.

4. Turn conversations into a content system

Choose formats that serve the audience and the purpose. The table is a planning menu, not a promise that every package contains every deliverable.

Source materialPossible assetAudience useOwner and approval

Which public profile is the primary home for the story: founder, company, or both? **__**

Who approves statements, clips and any customer material? **__**

5. Build trust deliberately

Before publishing, check names and roles, permission to use recordings, claim accuracy, source attribution and whether the edit preserves meaning. Guest participation is not a testimonial or endorsement.

If you want a case study, request it as a separate project with evidence and permission. If a guest expresses commercial interest, agree on a relevant next step separately from the interview.

6. Decide what success means

PurposePractical signal to track
ResearchQuestions answered and decisions informed
Personal or company brandRelevant audience engagement and direct inquiries
Thought leadershipUseful themes developed and cited or discussed
Relationship developmentRelevant conversations and mutually agreed follow-ups
Content productionApproved assets published to the agreed schedule
